The Client’s desire was to understand and drive the right capabilities in support of their vision for the function and to put development at the heart of conversations between manager and employee.
WhartonBC worked collaboratively with the finance function of a Global Leader in Sustainable Logistics to create a capability framework for the function, aligning to industry best practice, along with the development of a self-assessment tool to support effective development conversations.
Based on the CGMA framework and working closely with SME’s in the business, we identified the specialist technical and business capabilities needed for the finance function to achieve its strategy. We tailored the descriptions to the organisational context, identifying how the capabilities differ across various proficiency levels. Proficiency expectations were mapped to job families and bands which becomes useful in understanding breadth and depth of capability required for roles.
We developed a bespoke tool for individuals to self-assess the capabilities relevant to their current or desired future role which then provided them with a list of recommended training interventions to close any capability gaps. To further embed the framework we also provided a high level career framework to support the Global Leader in Sustainable Logistics in creating a more formalised view of career and development tracks for their Finance function.
