Along with a crew of 3 other working Mums, Wharton BC employee, Pippa Edwards successfully rowed 3000 miles across the unforgiving Atlantic Ocean in 40 days, 11 hours and 25 minutes, raising funds for three wonderful charities – The Felix Fund, Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospice and Women in Sport. She is genuinely proud and satisfied of her achievement but is also proud and satisfied that she broke the stereotype.
The Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge is an event dominated by men and she can now count herself as one of 250 women in the world ever to have rowed an ocean. She chose to take on this challenge because she wanted to see what she was capable of – could she really row for 2 hours on 2 hours off 24 hours a day for 40 days with all the Atlantic had to throw at her? It turns out she could, and if she can, she believes there are thousands of other woman who can too. She thinks that we are braver, stronger and more capable than we give ourselves credit for and this is something she is determined to take back into her life.
In this 10 minute bite-size masterclass, Pippa delves deeply into how her leadership and teamwork skills were put to the ultimate test and how her resilience and equality dreams helped her to survive.
